INTERVIEW: T.E.D.D.
POSTED BY Sam ON March 9th IN On The Radar, Tracks.
I first heard about T.E.D.D. when one of the band members contacted me about the availabilty of a Boys Noize track, he continued to explain that he needed it in 320kbps for his gig tommorow, when I asked where he was playing, bare in mind I didn’t know he produced music or was part of a group that produced music at the time, he said he was playing Fabric. So I was eager to find out more about him and his group, seeing as they were playing Fabric, he linked me to his bands MySpace and it was then that I had discovered T.E.D.D. So I got talking with John Montoya, alias: Pieboye, and I decided this would be a good time to make with an interview, which you can find below. You can hear their tracks/remixes below too, watch these guys because I have a feeling they are going to be big. They are currently unsigned and have already played live with artists such as D.I.M., Eric Prydz, Para One, Pendulum, Infidels, and many more, their full list of artists they have played live with is on their myspace.
So, now I present to you, our interview with T.E.D.D. member Pieboye (aka: John Montoya), followed by a few of their tracks (at 320kbps).
When did you all first start producing?
At different stages, Max (aka MichaelAngelo) started producing when he was 13 or so, myself (Pieboye) and James (aka Da Vinci), have been producing for about a year or slightly over that now, it was only around 6 months ago that we realised we could all put our talents together and make something of them.
How did you all meet?
Well Max and James went to secondary school together, and both did music there, so they bonded over that really. I met James around 2 years ago and we both shared a large interest in dance music, i remember when Waters of Nazareth first appeared on the scene we were both amazed by it, and it opened a whole new door. I met Max thorugh James, as they had already done some work together, and it all went on from there really.
Do you have a home studio and you all meet there to produce? and who does what?
We all work from home and we all have our own presets and packages etc. but we occasionally meet up together and get down some ideas as a group. James is the ideas man, he’s musical by nature so he comes up with most of the riffs. Max is the best producer, he’s often the one who will master the track, and i personally hold the largest knowledge of dance music, so i often bring up ideas and tracks to work on. everyone has a large input though, a suggestion is never lost.
Why the name T.E.D.D.?
Aahh now that would be revealing a secret now, that’s just something i can’t do…
How does it feel having the opportunity to play Fabric?
We played Fabric once before and we loved the venue, so playing there again with a better slot than last time is a great thing for a dj to have. The sound system is unbeatable, and the atmosphere is perfect for dance music.
How does it feel playing with artists such as Eric Prydz, Para One, D.I.M. and more?
There’s a great scene at the moment for electro, wonk, baltimore etc. in London and it means that often guys who’s work you admire personally are playing every week. To play at the same gigs as them is a always sweeet, especially since you get to see them do what they do best.
Who are your main influences?
If i was to think of our biggest influences theyld have to be SebastiAn, his productions are always so solid, The Proxy; no one seems to be making as exciting new productions as him recently, Curses!/Drop The Lime, his trademark oscillating bass is unbeatable and generally everyone on Institubes/Turbo Rec. We also have influences outside of dance music, such as classic prog rock band Yes, bossa nova in general, and other greats such as MJ and Herbie Hancock. Then there’s the obvious ones (Justice, Daft Punk etc.)
What artist would you like to meet the most?
Mozart, he must’ve had something interesting to say!
What equipment do you all use when producing your music?
We all have our methods but we can’t reveal them ![]()
What’s your favorite track that you have all produced?
We’re all in agreement that Epic Lands is the best T.E.D.D. track, by far.
When will we be seeing you in MixMag, haha?
If we have our way, as soon as possible!
and finally…
What do you think of One More Disco?
I like it! The layout looks very professional, and there are some sweet tracks goin’ down.

[...] love T.E.D.D. - we featured an interview with them a while back now, click here for it, so when John approached me with a remix of Modjo, I was skeptical to say the least, without liking [...]
