25 years of Mixmag party

POSTED BY Jade ON May 2nd IN Live, News.

After a long day roaming central London, the last thing I expected to do on a Thursday evening was go dancing, how mistaken I was.

I checked my e-mail yesterday at about 3pm, and had an e-mail from Mixmag, inviting me and a friend to their 25th Birthday party at an exclusive East London club. On the bill last night was Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and Mylo in Room 2 and New Young Pony Club, Annie Mac, Tim Westwood and Herve to name a few playing Super DJ tag, where each DJ plays 5 songs from the past 25 years and then gets ‘tagged’ by the next DJ. Well, no matter how tired I was yesterday afternoon, who the hell would refuse that event!?

The party kicked off at around 8pm (early doors!) with warm up DJ’s in both rooms and the flow of people coming through the door was non-stop and the pattern was from the door straight to the bar.

Being a stupendous fan of Digitalism and Simian Mobile Disco, I spend a large majority of the night downstairs in Room 2 right next to the DJ booth, dancing my little heart out!

First up we had Jence, one of the two members of Digitalism, who later told me, he was in London visiting some friends, and that’s why he played the set tonight on his own, a lovely young man to say the least who knocked out tunes with a bassline that vibrates so much it gives you heart palpitations, some of which, I must say, I had NO idea of what they were, but yet, they still made me move my feet and arms like I was having a fit.

Sadly, most of the guests at the party were somewhat older than myself and Gary (my acomplis) and did not move one bit. All standing around with the free wine/ beer chatting amongst themselves. Fortunately, I have the nature of a person who can never stand still.

Taking over the decks was the two James’ of Simian Mobile Disco, again, playing some amazing tracks with remixes of PartyShank and The Black Ghosts put in there aswell, to say the least, I was very glad! The Simian Mobile Disco set lasted longer than anticipated and unfortunately, I was beginning to find their set very tedious, so I set sail for Room 1 with the Superstar DJ tag!

Upstairs, was being played grime, electro, hip-hop and old school anything, which was a refreshing relief, after having synths in your ears for the last 4 hours, it was nice to dance to some Dizzee Rascal and Lethal Bizzle!

All in all, a good night, with amazing DJ’s as your would expect from the World best Dance magazine, keep an eye out in next months issue for photos of me, enough were taken. To see all photos taken last night, please head over to DontStayIn and tilllate.com.
