GRUM Interview

POSTED BY Jade ON April 13th IN Essentials, On The Radar.

I’ll be perfectly honest, I don’t know much about this guy at all. Originally from Edinburgh but currently living in Leeds, GRUM is 21 years old and doing a degree course in Music Technology, that is about all the infomation I can give you. Oh and for the ladies, he’s kind of cute too.

But none-the-less, who needs mindless infomation when the music is as good as this? I cannot begin to describe how amazing GRUM is, he has reminded me why I love electronic music so much! We feature no downloads on this post but I strongly recommend heading over to the No Love Lost Records (NLLR) website and downloading the GRUM mixtape (free of course), it’s like something we have never heard before! Below is a direct link to the mix.

Here I have put up an exclusive interview GRUM has done for us, he seems to be a very amusing and fun kind of guy, I look forward to dancing with him one day!

1.Tell me a little bit about yourself and you’re background and how it has lead you to make music.

I’m 21, originally from Scotland but I now live in-between Manchester and Leeds (England). Roundabout ’99/2000 when dance music had a big resurgence it caught my interest and I’ve been hooked ever since. I started making house and trance music just for fun, then got into techno, then drum n’ bass… 6 years later, I discovered electro and have been producing my GRUM music for just over a year now.

2.Have any of your songs been officially released?

Not yet – watch this space!

3.Who are your major influences?

In terms of music from the past, I love the production on a lot of 70’s and 80’s rock/disco/funk music.

Recent influences include the Ed Banger crowd, the Valerie collective (Anoraak are awesome!) and I love The Twelves also.

4. If I gave you an Elephant, where would you hide it?

In a tree? No-one would think to look there…

5.Where have you done live shows?

I haven’t actually done any live shows yet. This is something I’m working on!

6.What has been your biggest challenge?

Finishing my degree. Its killing me.

7.Have you benefitted from the success of the film Napoleon Dyanmite?

Well, it taught me how to dance so I guess so.

8.How can fans gain access to your music? Is it download only at the moment?

All my music can be found on my myspace page, www. myspace. com/grummmusic .

Check my myspace blog too for links to shareable tracks and remixes!

8.What is your ultimate goal in the music-making industry?

Right now I want to keep producing music that’s fun and interesting; I’m always trying to progress my sound and come up with new ideas to keep things fresh. Ultimately I would love to produce my own album, then maybe produce for other artists.

9.Would you rather go on a date with Sleeping Beauty or Snow White?

I doubt you’d get much conversation from Sleeping Beauty – it would have to be Snow White. Plus the seven dwarfs could entertain us.

10. Any last words….?

Go checkout my NLLR mix! *blatant plug*.

The address for the NLLR website is http://www.nolovelostrecords.com/, go check it out and thank me later :)
